Description
A great many people, many of which left only a vague imprint on history, passed over the territory of ancient Italy. To which groups of people did they refer? To which races did they belong? As to the Etruscans, whose origin is still unknown, they have been successively assigned to all races and countries. Yet their civilization, which was born between the Tiber and the Arno, exists before our very eyes: a great many relics of it remain, mainly in the glorious countryside of present-day Tuscany, where everything radiates balance and beauty.
It was a brilliant civilization, profoundly influenced for a time by its relations with the Greeks, but later completely original.
In admiring their capabilities and what they have handed down to us, we certainly have much to learn from these masters in the art of living. Rome owed them much. Some will find their mysterious rites or their science of divination especially interesting.
